I have made a start on the PinkThing. The control levers and perches have lost a lot of the powder coating, this needs completely stripping off. Removal is quite straight foreward, but be mindful of the little hairpin springs fitted inside, a magnetic dish is useful to prevent losing any of the irreplaceable fiddly bits, only the front halves are alloy so the electrics need not be disturbed, but I did unplug them and dosed everything with GT85. So, I held the angry grinder with a wire brush in it, in the vice. Full suit of armour worn with good goggles essential, this thing fires pointy bits of wire at close to the speed of sound at you.... This removed everything down to shiny aluminium, this needed a coat of etch primer, followed by car wheel paint, finished with 2k lacquer. I hung the parts up on wire and left them overnight between coats. Well, at least it's a start!

well done to you. They do (did) look to be in a bad state. You will soon be ready for the summer ( no need to rush then ! )

Ha ha, this bike has been laid up over 20 years... it belonged to my daughter, now my granddaughter seems to have inherited it. So I recon I've got my work cut out. The next job, is drop out the front end, replace tyre, bearings, repaint, general refurb etc. but I don't yet know the new colour scheme. I'll keep you posted as things happen.

Nice finish, well worth showing what can be revived. I've found that many people sing the praises of powder coating for applying to almost everything. However, once this paint starts to lift and moisture takes hold, it's a total strip down and repaint. In particular, the best example of this is with the steel wheels. Powder coating seems to not like edges, where it looks like the paint layer is much thinner.
For what its worth, if you're looking for a paint match for the light grey items - (wheels, hubs, control levers etc,) the Ford Sail Grey is a good match.

Yes, steel wheel rims and steel pressings and plates, what I do before paint prep is just wizz the edges off and round them with a flap wheel, either on an angry grinder or a drill. Paint or powder can't cover a sharp edge, surface tension pulls it away. I've got the front wheel assy. off, pics to follow. I still don't know the new colour scheme yet, maybe cream chassis and trim with burnt orangey pinkish bodywork, as found on the latest Royal Alloy 300. Maybe....
